(2009年8月) Canada-China Symposium on Managing Ethno-Cultural Diversity, as an integral part of the IUAES 2009, was held in Yunnan University, Kunming China on July28-29, 2009. This symposium is co-organized by Dr. Jean Lock Kunz (Policy Research Initiative, Canada) and Professor DU Fachun(Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology at Chinese Academy of Social Sciences(CASS), sponsored by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, and supported by the Canadian Embassy in Beijing. In which, Minister Nankivell extended his warm welcome to this symposium and thanks for scholars’ participation in this timely event Minister Nankivell point-ed out that the symposium draws together respected scholars from universities across Canada and China, has great significance on two fronts: first as a concrete expression of the growing volume and high calibre of scholarly and academic exchange between Canada and China, and second because the issues that participants will discuss in the following two days are of profound importance to our respective countries’ futures. From the governance of diversity to social and economic integration and intercultural communication, this Symposium’s topics of focus encompass tough, challenging and persistent issues with which governments and societies from all over the world must grapple. There is a great deal that Canada and China can share on these subjects. And with the growing economic and social ties linking countries on a global scale, concerted approaches in tackling these complex issues have become essential. Minister Nankivell emphasized that the Canadian Embassy looks forward to working with participants to build stronger ties and to deepen the Canada-China relationship.
