1. Mr.Ian Buchatt has completed his tenure (加拿大使馆柏伊恩参赞离任) Ian Burchett has completed his three-year's tenure as Counsellor for Public Affairs and he returned to Ottawa recently. Mr. Ian Buchatt committed himself to promoting Canada-China friendly relations and showed great concern for Canadian Studies in China and the development of ACSC during his 3-year term. We take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to him for his outstanding contribution to our common cause and wish him a great success in his new position.
2. Information Collection about Book Collections of Centers (催办各中心上交加拿大研究藏书资料信息) We asked all centers to submit the list of book collections, but up to now, the response has been uneven and not very active. Some centers make no response. It is called for once more that those center that have not responded should act promptly.
3. Beijing Foreign Languages University Activity Report(北京外国语大学加拿大研究中心举办“加拿大文化节”) The unveiling ceremony of the Canadian Studies Centre in the School of English and International Studies, Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), and the opening ceremony of the Canadian Cultural Festival were held on May 9, 2006. Guests of Honour included His Excellency Robert Wright, Canadian Ambassador to China, Professor Hao Ping, President of BFSU, Mr. Mei Ping, Former Chinese Ambassador to Canada, Ms. Li Bing, Deputy Director of State Administration for Foreign Experts’ Affairs, Ms. Wang Li, Academic Relations Officer from Embassy of Canada in Beijing and Professor Chen Yanping, Director of Canadian Studies Center of Peking University. Ambassador Robert Wright, President Hao Ping, Mr. Mei Ping and Professor Gong Yan, Director of Canadian Studies Centre of BFSU delivered speeches at the ceremonies. 4. Shanghai Communications University Activity Report (加拿大浸入式教育和我国双语教学国际会议在上海交通大学胜利召开) Thanks to the generous support of the Canadian Studies Development Project of the Foreign Affairs and International Trade Department of Canada, the International Forum on Canadian Immersion Education and Bilingual Instruction in China was successfully convened on June 10th and 11th at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Minghuang Campus). The conference was co-organized by the Canadian Studies of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Normal University. More than 150 scholars, researchers, teachers and postgraduates from China, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan participated in this conference. Details can be found in the attachment (See attached Report).
5. Canadian Flash Forum was successfully held in Beijing (中央美术学院举办“中加国际计算机Flash论坛:设计,技术和教育”) The Canadian Embassy in Beijing announced that with the support of Canadian Studies Development Program, the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) held 'China-Canada International Flash Forum: Design, Technology and Education' and workshops on 'Flash Education and Curriculum Development, Hands-on Training' from June 24 - 25, in Beijing. This forum held at CAFA provided an opportunity for educational institutions and industries from Canada and China to review the development of Flash technologies in design and education, and explored the potential of Flash in web design. In particular, discussions focused on 'Flash in Arts Education' and 'the Future of Flash in China' are expected to establish a new platform in Chinese new media research and education. 中国加拿大研究会会员信息站由加研会秘书处策划制作Email: wang.bing@126.com
