I write to let you know about an international conference being organized by The Association for Canadian Studies in the United States (ACSUS), September 28-30, 2006 in Anchorage, Alaska. The event, ‘Canada in the North Pacific,’ will examine Canada's role and relationships in the North Pacific region. ACSUS would like to encourage participation by Chinese scholars researching Chinese/Asia North Pacific – Canadian/North America relations. I have included the Call for Papers below which is also available on the ACSUS website: www.acsus.org. We would be grateful if you would share the Call for Papers with the Chinese Association for Canadian Studies and Canadian Studies/North American programs in China. The deadline for proposals to be received is March 15, 2006.
CALL FOR PAPERS
The Association for Canadian Studies in the United States is pleased to announce the Call for Papers for our 35th Anniversary ACSUS in ALASKA
Colloquium, "Canada in the North Pacific," September 28 - 30, 2006, Sheraton Hotel, Anchorage, Alaska.
Please distribute the attached call for papers. The colloquium will examine Canada's role and relationships in the North Pacific region. Proposals for papers are invited from a broad range of disciplinary perspectives and in a number of research areas including:
Northern Neighbo(u)rs: Canada and the US in the North Pacific
Canada and Alaska: Peoples, Environments, Sustainable Development
Canada's links with the Russian Far East
Canada and North East Asia: China, Japan, and the Koreas
Canada and the Aboriginal Peoples of the North Pacific region
?It is hoped that the program will include:
Security, defense, and foreign policy
Trade, development, natural resources and environment
Social issues - aboriginal peoples, immigration, identity, health and wellbeing
Cultures, languages, media, literature and the arts
Proposals for papers, including a one page (maximum) abstract, should be submitted to acsusinalaska@acsus.org by March 15, 2006. [The deadline for circulation of completed papers for those proposals that are accepted will be August 31]
This multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary colloquium will provide an intimate forum for Canadianists to compare research and perspectives on an area of increasingly vital significance in the 21st century. ACSUS in Alaska will involve two full days of panels and presentations, and a full day of organized tours for colloquium participants in south central Alaska.
Further information on ACSUS in Alaska/ACSUS 35th Anniversary Colloquium, "Canada in the North Pacific" will be posted on the ACSUS website as it becomes available.
