Seminar：Writing MA/Ph D Theses on Canadian Themes（撰写加拿大研究学位论文研讨会 征文启事）
With the development of Canadian studies in China, increasing is the number of MA/PhD students who choose to write on Canadian themes as their theses/dissertations. There has been, however, a general feeling of lacking in specific instructions and research resources. Answering to the needs, the present seminar is to provide a forum where some distinguished Canadianists are invited (one from Canada) to give consultations and academic exchanges among participants are conducted.
Seminar Dates: November 26-27, 2005
Participants: A. MA/PhD students who are writing or are to write soon on Canadian themes of various disciplines;
B. Canadianists supervising MA/PhD students are to be invited, one from Canada and 5—7 from universities in China.
Requirements: MA/PhD students are to supply their thesis/dissertation proposals, or abstracts/full papers by the end of October.
Working Languages: English and Chinese
Financial Assistance: Those who meet the above requirements and receive a formal letter of invitation by Nov. 10 are to be assisted with funds to cover their transportation rates (return tickets, hard-berth, train) and boarding & lodging during the seminar.

Theme: Dr. Bethune and the Anti-Japanese War in China
Organizer: Hebei Normal University, Shijiazhuang （石家庄）
Objective: Dr. Bethune paid his contribution to Chinese Anti-Japanese War and died
on November 12, 1939 at a village in Tangxian county, Hebei province, China. China
is holding various programs about the 60th anniversary of the victory of the
anti-Japanese war. Dr. Li Wei has just translated and published a book about Dr.
Bethune, which released a lot of materials never published before about Bethune.
Some scholars majoring in Canadian history and politics will have a forum based on
the latest book about Dr. Bethune.

=>4.河北师大加研中心会员侯建国顺利通过博士论文答辩
河北师大加研中心会员、河北省教育厅人事处副处长侯建国，已于今年6月通过博士论文答辩，论文题目为《二战后加拿大高等教育改革与发展研究》。目前正在与出版社联系出版事宜。侯建国在加拿大学习、研究多年，后又进入河北师大攻读博士，成为我国自己培养的又一个专门研究加拿大的博士学者，我们忠心祝贺他的学业有成，今后百尺竿头，在加拿大研究领域做出更多贡献。
Hou Jianguo, a member of the Association for Canadian Studies in China and the vice director of Human Resource Division of Provincial Department of Education in Hebei, has successfully defended his Doctoral dissertation titled as The Study on Reform and Development of Canadian Higher Education Since the Second World War. Now he is contacting with the press for the publication.
