=>1.The 14th ACSC Biennial Conference to be Held in Bewai
 
The 14th biennial conference of the Association for Canadian Studies in China (ACSC) is to be held in Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) from October 28th to 30th. The conference, with the theme of “Inheritance and Development: Canada and China in the Context of Globalization in the 21st Century”, is hosted by the Canadian Studies Centre of BFSU. About 120 domestic and 20 overseas scholars are going to attend the conference.
 
    The conference will have keynote addresses and panel discussions. Key issues under discussion are Canadian foreign policy and China-Canada relations, China-Canada trade relations, environmental issues and policy, ethnic issues and multiculturalism, Canadian public policy and social policy, Education, art, journalism, and Canadian literature.
 
     Prominent scholars of Canadian Studies are invited to give keynote addresses at the conference. Professor Patrick James, President-elect of the International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS) and professor of the School of International Relations, University of Southern California is going to address the topic “Constitutional Politics in Canada After the Charter”. Professor Paul Evans, Director of the Institute of Asian Research, University of British Columbia, is going to give a speech on “Looking Forward in Canada-China Relations: Problems and Prospects”. Professor Peter S. Li, fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and professor of sociology at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, is going to talk about “Chinese Canadians in Transition: From Cold War to Open Door”. 
 
    Other renowned scholars like Professor Glen Jones, Vice Dean of Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, Professor Lorna Wright, Associate Vice-President from York University, and Dr. Jack Jedwab, executive director of the Association for Canadian Studies in Canada, together with scholars from a wide range of universities and institutions in China are going to exchange ideas on a variety of topics on Canadian studies.
 
     This October marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Canada and China. The 14th ACSC biennial conference commemorates this important occasion. With the joint efforts of organizers and participants, we hope this conference will provide a unique opportunity for Canadianists home and abroad to share their research findings and exchange ideas.
