ICCS’ (International Council for Canadian Studies) publication The International Canadianist is designed to showcase specific examples of research work done by Canadianists that fall within the priorities of the Understanding Canada Program of the Government of Canada. The International Canadianist is intended for decision makers within the Canadian government and anyone interested in learning more about Canadian Studies around the world. As such, it published book reviews and articles on research work and presentations undertaken by Canadianists and promoted their significant contributions to Canada and the field of Canadian studies. We need your help in pointing to us any event, publication, article, speeches, research work that by being covered in the Canadianist International would help fulfill this bulletin's goal. MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY'S CANADIAN STUDIES CENTER– SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Michigan State University’s Canadian Studies Center (CSC) encourages the study of Canada, its societal and geographic dimensions, as well as its relationship with the U.S. and its rich contribution to a global culture. During the 2010-2011 academic year, there are two opportunities for students to earn scholarship funds through the Center while discovering how their area of interest might have a Canadian perspective: Five $1,000 scholarships will be offered to five different students who are enrolled in the College of Education and interested in a K-12 teaching career and five $2,000 scholarships will be offered to five different students who submit a selected 5,000 word essay on the topic of the Canada and U.S. Connections. JOINT ISRAELI-CANADIAN RESEARCH WORKSHOP – CALL FOR APPLICATION
The Halbert Centre for Canadian Studies of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem invites faculty members in the regular academic track to submit proposals for the organization of research workshops with participation of Israeli and Canadian researchers, to be held at the Hebrew University. These workshops are designed: to strengthen academic ties between researchers from the Hebrew University in Social Sciences, Humanities, Law, and Social Work, and cohorts from universities throughout Canada; to promote the exchange and development of ideas and knowledge with Israeli and Canadian content; and to keep abreast of latest developments in the fields related to the themes of the workshops. EMBODIED PRACTICE, THE MEDIA AND IDENTITY IN CANADIAN CONTEXTS – CALL FOR PAPERS FOR AN EDITED COLLECTION
In recent years, the increasing research focus upon various embodied ways of knowing and experiencing the world has been accompanied by shifting theoretical and methodological approaches to the interpretation and representation of both individual and collective human experiences in interdisciplinary contexts. Despite the growing body of literature on affect, emotion, and embodiment, there exists a paucity of ethnographic or other qualitative analyses of these domains of experience within Canadian contexts. As such, the conference organizers are seeking original, previously unpublished papers that utilize qualitative approaches to explore collective affective states within the context of Canadian society. LECTURER IN FRENCH AND HISTORY – JOB OPPORTUNITY
The Department of Foreign Languages and the Department of History at the University of Toledo invite applications for a full-time lecturer in French and History, beginning Fall 2010. The Association for Canadian Studies in Serbia (SACS) and the Faculty of Geo-economics, Department for North American Studies, Megatrend University, Belgrade, supported by the Canadian Embassy in Belgrade are pleased to announce that SACS' 5th  International Conference will be hosted by Megatrend University in Belgrade, Serbia, on April 20th and 21st, 2011. GOVERNING THE FAR NORTH: ASSESSING COOPERATION BETWEEN ARCTIC AND NON-ARCTIC NATIONS – CONFERENCE
This conference will be held on September 21st, 2010, at the Canada Institute of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, in Washington DC, United States. The key issues to be addressed include: How well do existing governing structures address Arctic issues? Is it possible to demonstrate a governance approach that results in mutual gain and sets a precedent for international cooperation? ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OR FULL PROFESSOR OF CANADIAN HISTORY – JOB OPPORTUNITY
The Department of Humanities of the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor tenure-stream position in Canadian History to begin July 1st, 2011. Le bulletin électronique Le canadianiste international que publie le CIEC (Conseil international d'études canadiennes) a été conçu pour présenter des exemples précis de travaux de recherche entrepris par des canadianistes et qui correspondent au cadre établi par le Programme comprendre le Canada du gouvernement du Canada. CENTRE D'ÉTUDES CANADIENNES DE L'UNIVERSITÉ MICHIGAN STATE – OCCASION DE BOURSES D'ÉTUDES
Le Centre d'études canadiennes de l'Université Michigan State encourage les études portant sur le Canada, ses dimensions sociétale et géographique, ainsi que sa relation avec les États-Unis et sa riche contribution à la culture globale. Pendant l'année scolaire 2010-2011 et par l'intermédiaire du Centre d'études canadiennes, les étudiants pourront profiter de deux types de bourses tout en découvrant comment leur domaine d'intérêt peut adopter une perspective canadienne : cinq bourses de 1 000 $ chacune seront offertes à cinq étudiants inscrits au College of Education et qui sont attirés par une carrière K-12 (maternelle à la 12e année); cinq autres bourses de 2 000 $ chacune seront attribuées à cinq étudiants qui soumettront un essai de 5 000 mots portant sur les liens entre le Canada et les États-Unis. Au cours des dernières années, la recherche s'est concentrée davantage sur diverses approches incarnées pour connaître et expérimenter le monde. Elle a été accompagnée d'un déplacement des approches théoriques et méthodologiques à l'égard de l'interprétation et de la représentation des expériences individuelles et collectives dans des contextes interdisciplinaires. En dépit de la quantité de documentation portant sur l'expérience affective, les émotions et l'incarnation, il y a à l'heure actuelle une pénurie d'analyses ethnographique ou d'autres analyses qualitatives dans des domaines connexes effectuées dans un contexte canadien. Les organisateurs du colloque recherchent des communications originales qui ont recours à une approche quantitative pour explorer les états affectifs collectifs dans le contexte de la société canadienne. Le Premier colloque et atelier étudiant annuel en sciences sociales, en littérature et en sciences humaines, parrainé par l'Université du Nouveau-Brunswick et par l'Université Mount Allison se tiendra à St-John, Nouveau-Brunswick, les 18 et 19 février 2011. Les sujets et la période visée par les communications sont laissés au choix des présentateurs. Les communications provenant des étudiants de premier et des cycles supérieurs, dans tous les domaines liés aux sciences sociales, à la littérature et aux sciences humaines sont les bienvenues.
