CANADIAN STUDIES NETWORK/RÉSEAU D’ÉTUDES CANADIENNES
A new association in Canadian Studies has been created. It is dedicated to serving the purposes of scholars - including faculty, students, and independent researchers - involved in the study of Canada through Canadian Studies programs or within other disciplines at the post-secondary level in Canada. This new association welcomes individuals or institutions involved in Canadian Studies to participate in and/or join the association. NEW PRESIDENT AT AFEC
On July 9th, 2010, the Executive Committee of AFEC (Association française d’études canadiennes) nominated Ms. Hélène Harter as AFEC’s new President. Ms. Harter is currently Director of the Centre de recherches d’études canadiennes of the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and a Senior Lecturer for this organization. As of September 2010, she will be Professor of Contemporary History at the Université de Rennes 2 – Haute Bretagne. Ms. Harter specializes in the History of the United States and Canada. ICCS’s Executive Committee and personnel wish to congratulate Ms. Harter for her recent appointment. Ms. Harter can be reached by email at helene.harter@orange.fr.

ICCS’s Executive Committee and personnel would like to congratulate Professor Yves Frenette of the Department of History of the University of Ottawa for his appointment as Interim Director of the Institute of Canadian Studies for a two year term that begun on July 1st, 2010. Mr. Frenette is a member of the Faculty of Graduate and Postgraduate Studies and was until his recent appointment as Director for the Centre for Research on French Canadian Culture of the University of Ottawa. The team of researchers who organized the colloquium titled “Canadians in the United States: American Dreamers in their Social and Economic Context” and that was held on May 12th and 13th, 2010, invite proposals for articles and research notes for publication in a special issue of the International Journal of Canadian Studies and addressing the American experience of Canadians in all historical periods and geographical contexts. RENEWING OR CHALLENGING DEMOCRACY AS WE KNOW IT – CALL FOR PAPERS
This conference, organised by Aarhus University in collaboration with ARENA (Oslo University) and with the support of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, will be held from May 12th to 14th, 2011, at Aarhus University, Denmark. RELIGIOUS ENCOUNTER AND EXCHANGE IN ABORIGINAL CANADA – CALL FOR PAPERS
This call for papers aims to encourage and assess innovative approaches to the history of Aboriginal religious encounter and exchange in Canada. Accepted papers will be presented at a workshop to be held in May 2011 in Saskatoon (subject to funding). A selection of papers from the workshop will be published in a special edition of Native Studies Review. INTERFACES BRASIL/CANADÁ, ISSUE NO. 12 – CALL FOR ARTICLES
ABECAN (Brazilian Association of Canadian Studies) is launching a call for papers for the No. 12 issue of Interfaces Brasil/Canadá, a yearly journal devoted to comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives focused on Brazil and Canada. This issue will be developed under the theme “Trans and multidisciplinary perspectives in Canadian Studies in Brazil” followed by Free Theme Section and Book Reviews. The Canadian Theatre Review (CTR) is the major magazine of record for Canadian theatre. It is committed to excellence in the critical analysis and innovative coverage of current developments in Canadian theatre, to advocating new issues and artists, and to publishing at least one significant new playscript per issue. MÉMOIRE VIVES – ISSUE NO. 30 NOW AVAILABLE
The 30th issue of Mémoire Vives, the electronic bulletin issued by the Commission franco-québécoise sur les lieux de mémoire communs (CFQLMC) is now available and can be accessed through website http://www.cfqlmc.org/bulletin-memoires-vives/derniere-parution. The CFQLMC is a bilateral organization that brings together, on both sides of the Atlantic, volunteers interested in shared memories between France and Quebec. The goal of the organization is to celebrate and take stock of these shared memories.

« LYRIC CANADA » – CALL FOR PAPERS
The Brock Review is seeking scholarly essays and creative pieces for an upcoming issue on the above mentioned theme. In this context, the term "lyric theatre" encompasses a wide range of dramatic works in which sung text is an integral part. This issue will be linked through its theme to the Lyric Canada Conference that will be held at Brock University, from October 21st to 23rd, 2010. The 42nd Annual Convention of the Northeast Modern Language Association (NeMLA), will be held from April 7th to 10th, 2010, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. One of the 350 sessions available is titled Personal and Social Myth-making in the Work of Margaret Atwood and the organizers are seeking papers that examine Atwood’s evolving vision of the role of mythologies in our lives. NOMINATION D’UNE NOUVELLE PRÉSIDENTE À L’AFEC
Le 9 juin 2010, le conseil d’administration de l’Association française d’études canadiennes (AFEC) a élu Mme Hélène Harter comme présidente de l’AFEC. Mme Harter occupe à l’heure actuelle les fonctions de directrice et de maître de conférences du Centre de recherches d’études canadiennes de l’Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne; à compter du 1er septembre 2010, elle sera professeure d’histoire contemporaine à l’Université de Rennes 2 — Haute Bretagne. CANADIAN THEATRE REVIEW
Canadian Theatre Review constitue la principale revue consacrée au théâtre canadien. On y présente d’excellentes analyses critiques ainsi qu’une couverture innovatrice des développements actuels dans le théâtre canadien. On prend fait et cause pour les préoccupations des artistes, et on publie au moins un scénario d’importance par numéro. Le comité de rédaction s’est engagé à produire des numéros thématiques qui examinent en profondeur et sous tous les angles les questions émergentes et à accroître la pratique de la critique dans le théâtre canadien ainsi que le développement de nouvelles voix. CANADIAN STUDIES REPORT DE L’UNIVERSITÉ DE WASHINGTON
Le « Canadian Studies Center Report » était jusqu’à maintenant publié trimestriellement et couvrait les cours offerts en études canadiennes, les recherches effectuées par les membres de la faculté et les étudiants des cycles supérieurs et portant sur le Canada et les relations Canada-États-Unis, les nouvelles traitant de la faculté, des étudiants des cycles supérieurs en études canadiennes, ainsi que des événements clés parrainés par le Canadian Studies Centre de l’Université de Washington. Depuis juin 2010, ce rapport est maintenant offert mensuellement et en ligne. Il sera envoyé par courriel et sera également conservé sur le site Web du Centre. Le 42e colloque annuel de la Northeast Modern Language Association (NeMLA) se tiendra du 7 au 10 avril 2010, à New Brunswick, New Jersey. L’un des 350 ateliers offerts s’intitule « Personal and Social Myth-making in the Work of Margaret Atwood » et les organisateurs recherchent des communications qui examinent la vision évolutive de Mme Atwood à l’égard du rôle des mythologies dans nos vies. LES INSTITUTIONS LITTÉRAIRES EN QUESTION – APPEL DE COMMUNICATION
Le 21e Colloque de l’Association des professeurs de littérature acadienne et québécoise de l’Atlantique se tiendra à l’Université Laval, Québec, du 20 au22 octobre 2011.
