ON THE HOMEFRONT
               FIRST RECIPIENT OF THE JEAN-MICHEL LACROIX AWARD
In 2009, the editorial board of the International Journal of Canadian Studies (IJCS) created the Jean-Michel Lacroix Award in honour of Professor Jean-Michel Lacroix for his major contribution to the creation of the IJCS. This prize is awarded every two years to the author of the best article published in the IJCS. Professor Gregory Betts was the first canadianist to receive the Jean-Michel Lacroix Award in May 2010. His article, entitled “Non compos mentis: A Meta-Historical Survey of the Historiographic Narratives of Louis Riel's ‘Insanity’” was published in issue number 38 of the IJCS.               ICCS BIENNIAL CONFERENCE, MAY 29 AND 30, 2010 – AGEING SOCIETIES – THE DYNAMICS OF DEMOGRAPHIC CHANGE IN CANADA
The International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS) recently held its biennial international conference "Ageing Societies - The Dynamics of Demographic Change in Canada" as part of the Congress of Humanities and Social Sciences Meeting at Concordia University in Montreal, May 29 & 30, 2010.
More than 80 individuals, including government representatives and international Canadianists, participated in a total of sixteen sessions analyzing various dimensions of demographic change in Canada. A wide range of topics were covered, some of which included "Legal Issues", "Social Networks, Solidarity, and Support", and "End of Life Care".
Keynote speakers included Céline Le Bourdais, Canada Research Chair in Social Statistics and Family Change, McGill University; and Munir Sheikh, Chief Statistician of Canada, Statistics Canada.
We are also grateful for remarks given by Hon. Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State for seniors and Hon. Marguerite Blais (Minister responsible for seniors).
Many thanks to all presenters and participants, without whom the conference would not have been such a success!

GENDER AND LABOR IN CONTEMPORARY FRENCH-CANADIAN LITERATURE – CALL FOR PAPERS
The 42nd annual convention of the Northeast Modern Language Association will be held at Rutger University, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, from April 7th to 9th, 2011. It will feature approximately 350 sessions, as well as dynamic speakers and cultural events. Through the autumn and winter of 2009-2010, a trial newspaper digitization project sponsored by Libraries Nova Scotia was carried out in Halifax at Nova Scotia Archives & Records Management, and in Sydney at the Beaton Institute, Cape Breton University. Both institutions hold extensive collections of historical newspapers from around Nova Scotia, and offer specialized in-house digitization services for archival material. PREMIER RÉCIPIENDAIRE DU PRIX JEAN-MICHEL LACROIX
En 2009, le Comité de rédaction de la Revue internationale d’études canadiennes (RIÉC) a créé le prix Jean-Michel Lacroix, en l’honneur du professeur Jean-Michel Lacroix qui a contribué à la création de la RIÉC, pour récompenser l’auteur(e) du meilleur article publié dans la RIÉC à tous les deux ans. COLLOQUE BIENNAL DU CIEC, 29 ET 30 MAI 2010 – LE VIEILLISSEMENT DES SOCIÉTÉS – LA DYNAMIQUE DE L’ÉVOLUTION DÉMOGRAPHIQUE AU CANADA
Le Conseil international d'études canadiennes (CIEC) a tenu récemment sa conférence biennale « Le vieillissement des sociétés : La dynamique de l'évolution démographique au Canada » à Montréal, lors du Congrès des sciences humaines à l'Université Concordia les 29 et 30 mai 2010.
Plus de 80 personnes, y compris des représentants du gouvernement du Canada ainsi que des Canadianistes internationaux ont participé à un total de seize séances analysant diverses dimensions du changement démographique au Canada. Une grande variété de sujets ont été couverts, incluant : « les questions légales », « les réseaux sociaux, la solidarité et le soutien aux aînés », « les soins en fin de vie », etc.
Les conférenciers principaux : Céline Le Bourdais, de la Chaire de recherche du Canada en Statistiques sociales et changement familial, Université McGill et Munir Sheikh, statisticien en chef du Canada, Statistique Canada.
Nous sommes très reconnaissants de la participation de l'Honorable Diane Ablonczy, ministre d'État (Aînés), Ottawa, et de l'honorable Marguerite Blais, ministre responsable des Aînés, Québec.

Le comité de rédaction de Globe, revue internationale d'études québécoises invite les chercheurs à lui soumettre leurs propositions d'articles pour un prochain numéro sur les revues d'idées au Québec. Ce numéro thématique sur les revues culturelles d'idées portera sur la manière dont les équipes éditoriales organisent l'insertion du périodique dans le débat public et comment elles agissent pour se donner une cohérence, un projet, des collaborateurs réguliers afin de s'allier un lectorat qui se reconnaît dans la problématique abordée.
