EU-Canada Study Tour and Internship Program 2010 – “Thinking Canada”
“Thinking Canada” is an exciting new initiative of the European Network for Canadian Studies, a three-and-a-half week study tour to Canada for European students that will take place from 1-26 September 2010, followed for a few selected participants by two-month internships. It will be preceded by four days of briefings in Brussels on the EU and EU-Canada relations. The aim of the study tour is to offer its participants a unique in-depth experience of Canada through an intensive programme of visits to major private and public institutions, government bodies, think-tanks and NGOs. At each place, the students will receive briefings and have the opportunity to exchange views with representatives of these bodies, many of them leading experts in their fields. The tour will begin in Brussels, and travel to Ottawa, Québec, Montréal, Toronto, Vancouver and Victoria. This immersion in Canada will offer a unique opportunity for an academic experience in a non-academic setting. The tour is focused on a number of themes, in particular cultural diversity (including the English/French relationship, the First Nations and multiculturalism), political issues (federalism, regionalism, the role of government), the environment (including Arctic issues), urban issues and economic topics (business, finance, trade). EU-Canada relations will also be covered and provide a recurring backdrop to the discussions. Two European academic advisors will be accompanying the tour to serve as resource persons and work with the students in helping them complete the specific academic tasks they have previously agreed on with their academic advisors at their home universities. In addition to the tour, three two-month internships will be offered to participants immediately following the end of the tour. These will take place at the Institute for Research on Public Policy (Montréal), Canada’s oldest public policy think thank; the environmentally-focused David Suzuki Foundation (Vancouver); and a Canadian government department in Ottawa. Multiculturalism, Canadian Multiculturalism and Multicultural Education
The First Colloquium in Multiculturalism, Canadian Multiculturalism and Multicultural Education is hosted by the Canadian Studies Division at the Universidad de Matanzas “Camilo Cienfuegos”, Cuba with the collaboration of the CCMDD (Canadian Centre for Multicultural Development and Documentation, Windsor Ont. This conference will be held from February 23rd to February 25th, 2011, at the Canadian Studies Division facilities, main campus, University of Matanzas, on the occasion of its 15th anniversary. The conference will bring together scholars, researchers, professors and any other professional interested in the fields discussed , along with invited keynote speakers, to catalyze discussion - particularly on Canadian Multiculturalism - through papers, panels, readings, round tables and lectures. FOUNDATION FOR CANADIAN STUDIES AWARDS – CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
The Foundation for Canadian Studies in the United Kingdom was established in 1975 to support teaching, research and publishing about Canada in the United Kingdom, and to promote academic links and student exchanges between Canadian and British universities. MY SUMMIT 2010: CALL FOR U.S. UNIVERSITY YOUTH DELEGATES
MY SUMMIT 2010 is the official international youth summit to be held alongside the G8 Summit and the G20 Summit. PEACEBUILDING AND PSYCHOLOGIES OF PEACE: CALL FOR PAPERS
This research project will result in the publication of an edited volume, tentatively entitled Peacebuilding and Psychologies of Peace, and aspires to bridge the gap between the politics of peacebuilding and the psychologies of peace, thus seeking to open new avenues of research and interdisciplinary cooperation. More specifically, this project aims at examining the intimate but underestimated relationship between processes of psychological healing and political reconciliation. Voyage d’études et programme de stages UE-Canada de 2010 : « Penser le Canada »
« Penser le Canada » est une nouvelle initiative des plus intéressantes du Réseau européen d’études canadiennes : un voyage d’études de trois semaines et demie au Canada pour des étudiants européens, qui aura lieu du 1er au 26 septembre 2010 et sera suivi de deux mois de stage pour certains participants. Le voyage sera précédé d’une séance d’information de quatre jours à Bruxelles sur les relations entre le Canada et l’Union européenne. Le but du voyage d'études est d'offrir aux participants une expérience unique et profonde du Canada grâce à un programme intensif de visites aux institutions publiques et privées, organismes gouvernementaux, groupes de réflexion et ONG clés. À chaque rencontre, les étudiants auront droit à une séance d'information et pourront échanger des points de vue avec les représentants de ces organismes, dont plusieurs sont des spécialistes reconnus dans leurs domaines. Le voyage commencera à Bruxelles et se poursuivra à Ottawa, à Québec, à Montréal, à Toronto, à Vancouver et à Victoria. Cette immersion au Canada offrira une occasion unique d’acquérir une expérience universitaire dans un cadre non universitaire. La visite est axée sur un certain nombre de thèmes, notamment sur la diversité culturelle (y compris les relations francophones-anglophones, les Premières nations et le multiculturalisme), des enjeux politiques (dont le fédéralisme, le régionalisme, le rôle du gouvernement), l’environnement (y compris les enjeux de l'Arctique), des questions urbaines et économiques (les affaires, les finances, le commerce). Les relations entre l’UE et le Canada seront aussi abordées et fourniront une toile de fond aux discussions. Deux conseillers pédagogiques européens accompagneront la tournée. Ils serviront de personnes ressources et travailleront avec les étudiants pour les aider à s’acquitter des travaux universitaires dont ils ont déjà convenu auparavant avec les conseillers pédagogiques de leur université d’origine. En outre, trois stages de deux mois seront offerts à des participants immédiatement après la fin du voyage et se dérouleront à l’Institut de recherche en politiques publiques (à Montréal) qui est le cercle de réflexion le plus ancien du Canada, à la Fondation David Suzuki (Vancouver) pour la protection de l’environnement, ainsi que dans un ministère du gouvernement du Canada à Ottawa. « PEACEBUILDING AND PSYCHOLOGIES OF PEACE » : APPEL DE COMMUNICATION
Ce projet de recherche donnera lieu à la publication d’un volume rédigé en collaboration, provisoirement intitulé « Peacebuilding and Psychologies of Peace » et qui souhaite combler le fossé entre les politiques de consolidation de la paix et la psychologie de la paix, de manière à établir ainsi de nouvelles avenues de recherche et de coopération interdisciplinaire.
