ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES IN CANADA, ISRAEL, AND BEYOND
Biennially, the Halbert Centre for Canadian Studies and the Israel Association for Canadian Studies hold a Canadian Studies conference. Inheritance and Development: Canada and China in the Context of Globalization in the 21st Century
The Association for Canadian Studies in China will hold its 14th Biennial Conference at Beijing Foreign Studies University from October 28 to 30, 2010. CANADA’S RELIGIONS: UTOPIA AND PROPHECY – CALL FOR PAPERS
The Centre d’études canadiennes interuniversitaires de Bordeaux invites communications for the Congrès Religions Canadiennes (Canadian Religions Conference) that will be held on December 16th and 17th, 2010, at the Université Michel Montaigne – Bordeaux 3. This conference will allow the examination of religions in Canada, an area of this country that lack proper study in Europe. The plurality of religion does not belong exclusively to the United States; Canada shows in that regard a unique and huge historical and contemporary diversity. “LES IMMIGRANTS FRANÇAIS AU CANADA À L’ÉPOQUE DE LA GRANDE MIGRATION TRANSATLANTIQUE” (1870-1914) – CALL FOR PAPERS
An international team (located at Université du Québec à Montréal, University of Ottawa, Université de La Rochelle and Université de Nantes) want to foster the study of the immigration phenomenon of more than 30,000 French to Canada, from 1870 to 1914, i.e. the migratory context, settlement conditions, modalities of integration, etc. Papers will be presented in a preliminary meeting in Nantes in early 2010, then in a wide open colloquium in Montreal and Ottawa, in September of 2010. The Centre de Recherche Espaces/Ecritures (CREA, EA 370) of the université Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense is undertaking a long term assignment on the above mentioned theme, in cooperation with BDIC and the Cité Nationale de l’Immigration and with the help of McMaster University (Ontario, Canada). In early June 2010, a study session and/or a colloquium will follow, that could bring together scholars from Paris Ouest interested by such an endeavour, along with some of our foreign partners. Eras, an on-line journal edited and produced by postgraduate students from the School of Historical Studies at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, is a fully refereed journal with DEST status. It is intended as an international forum for current or recently completed Masters and PhD students to publish original research, comment and reviews. The editors are seeking papers from postgraduate students working in any of the fields covered by the School's teaching and research (History, Archaeology and Ancient History, Religion and Theology, Jewish Civilisation, and International Studies) and are also interested in papers relating to Canadian history. “JUST WATCH ME!” 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE OCTOBER CRISIS AND WAR MEASURES ACT IN CANADA – CALL FOR PAPERS
October 2010 will mark the 40th anniversary of the October Crisis. To acknowledge this critically both historical and traumatic moment in Quebec’s and Canadian’s state formation, we invite abstracts for a two day conference on the October Crisis 1970 and War Measures Act in Canada at Carleton University starting on the afternoon of October 5th and closing at the end of the day of October 7, 2010. This interdisciplinary bilingual conference seeks to encourage discussion on various political, cultural, and social perspectives of the October Crisis. ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES (OAS) FELLOWSHIPS PROGRAMS – CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
Academic scholarships are awarded to undertake graduate studies (Master’s or PhD level) and/or graduate research at a university or higher learning institution in a Member State. Studies may be on-site or distance education or a combination of both. OAS scholarships are awarded for full-time study or research in any OAS member state except the one nominating the candidate for the OAS scholarship. The total financial award from the OAS may not exceed US$30,000 per academic year which includes tuition, benefits, and administrative costs. Scholarships are awarded for an initial period of one academic year and may be renewed subsequently for up to one additional year. ESC: English Studies in Canada invites proposals for a Special Issue on “Traffic,” from scholars, writers, artists, and activists with an interest in the historical conditions, theoretical implications, and emergent potentialities of the concept. The guest editors Cecily Devereux and Mark Simpson of the University of Alberta seek a diversity of historical perspectives, and welcome interdisciplinary approaches as well as work from fields such as (but not limited to) mobility studies, feminist theory, queer studies, postcolonial studies, political economy, and ecocriticism. 2010 GUTTENBERG CHAIRS – CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
The Guttenberg Chairs are structures set up by Alsace local communities, upon proposal from the Cercle Guttenberg to facilitate over a one year period, the hosting of scholars of international repute invited by higher education and research institutions. The recipients of the Guttenberg Chairs receive the Guttenberg Award of 1,000€ each and a financial endowment of 50,000€ which is attributed to their intake unit entirely dedicated to the completion of their research project. Une équipe internationale (provenant des universités du Québec à Montréal, d’Ottawa, de La Rochelle et de Nantes) souhaite favoriser l’étude, dans toutes ses dimensions, du phénomène de l’immigration de plus de 30 000 Français au Canada, entre les années 1870 et 1914, c’est-à-dire le contexte migratoire, les conditions d’établissement, les modalités d’intégration, etc. Les communications seront présentées dans un colloque préparatoire à Nantes au début de 2011, puis dans un colloque grand public à Montréal et à Ottawa en septembre 2012. Eras, une revue électronique publiée et produite par des étudiants diplômés de la School of Historical Studies de Monash University, Melbourne, Australie, est une revue scientifique, évaluée par des pairs. « JUST WATCH ME! » 40e ANNIVERSAIRE DE LA CRISE D’OCTOBRE ET DE LA LOI SUR LES MESURES DE GUERRE AU CANADA – APPEL DE COMMUNICATION
Octobre 2010 sera marqué par le 40e anniversaire de la Crise d’octobre. Afin de souligner ce moment historique et traumatique dans la formation des États du Québec et du Canada, nous lançons cet appel à communications pour un colloque-atelier sur la crise d’octobre et la Loi sur les mesures de guerre à l’Université Carleton à Ottawa. L’ouverture du colloque se fera à la fin de l’après-midi du 5 octobre 2010 et sa clôture se fera en fin de journée le 7 octobre 2010. Cet événement interdisciplinaire bilingue cherche à encourager la discussion sur les perspectives sociétales autour de la crise d’octobre 70. INITIATIVE DE RECHERCHE SUR LES POLITIQUES AUTOCHTONES NOUVEAUX DOCUMENTS DISPONIBLES
L’Institut sur la gouvernance (IOG), en collaboration avec le Bureau de l’interlocuteur fédéral auprès des Métis et des Indiens non inscrits, a publié plusieurs documents pour sa série portant sur les recherches en politiques et relatifs aux questions affectant les Métis, les Indiens non inscrits et d’autres peuples autochtones vivant en dehors des réserves. PROGRAMME DE BOURSES DE L’ORGANISATION DES ÉTATS AMÉRICAINS (OÉA) – APPEL DE CANDIDATURE
Les bourses d’études sont offertes aux personnes intéressées à poursuivre des études supérieures menant à un diplôme de maîtrise ou de doctorat ou des recherches dans une université ou un établissement d’enseignement supérieur d’un État membre. Les études peuvent se faire sur place ou par enseignement à distance, ou par une combinaison des deux. Les bourses d’études de l’OÉA sont offertes à des fins d’études ou de recherches dans tout État membre de l’OÉA, sauf le pays parrain du candidat d’une bourse de l’OÉA. La valeur totale de la bourse ne peut dépasser 30 000 $US par année d’études, ce qui inclut les frais de scolarité, les avantages et les coûts d’administration. Les bourses sont accordées pour une période initiale d’une année scolaire et peuvent être renouvelées au besoin pour terminer le programme d’études ou les travaux de recherche pour lesquels la bourse avait été accordée initialement. Les dossiers de candidature (étapes 1 et 2) doivent être soumis au plus tard à 16 h HNE, le 12 avril 2010. Bien que la Revue d’histoire urbaine / Urban History Review mette l’accent sur la perspective historique, les approches interdisciplinaires sont encouragées. LE QUÉBEC EN CLASSE – FORMATION
Le 9 et le 10 avril 2010, une formation continue pour les professeurs de l’enseignement secondaire aura lieu à Brême. L’événement est organisé conjointement par les régions de Brême et de la Basse-Saxe, dans lesquelles le Québec a été retenu comme sujet pour le baccalauréat de français en 2012. Grâce à la collaboration des deux ministères régionaux d’éducation, de l’Institut d’études canadiennes et québécoises de l’université de Brême et de l’Institut Français de Brême, et grâce également au soutien de l’AIEQ, de la Délégation générale du Québec en Allemagne, et de l’association des professeurs de français, ces deux journées comprendront des conférences sur l’histoire du Québec, le Québec actuel, ses littératures et son cinéma, de nombreux ateliers d’approfondissement et de didactique, ainsi qu’une soirée à l’Institut Français et la projection de plusieurs films. « TRAFFIC » – APPEL À CONTRIBUTION
ESC: English Studies in Canada lance une invitation, en vue d’un numéro spécial portant sur le « Traffic », aux universitaires, écrivains, artistes et activistes démontrant un intérêt pour les conditions historiques, les implications théoriques et les virtualités émergentes de ce concept. Les directeurs scientifiques invités Cecily Devereux et Mark Simpson de l’Université de l’Alberta sont intéressés par une diversité de perspectives historiques et encouragent les approches interdisciplinaires ainsi que les travaux dans des domaines comme, mais sans s’y limiter, la théorie féministe, les études queer, les études littéraires postcoloniales, l’économie politique et les études littéraires en environnement. CHAIRES GUTENBERG 2010 – APPEL DE CANDIDATURE
Les Chaires Gutenberg sont un dispositif mis en place par les collectivités locales en Alsace, sur proposition du Cercle Gutenberg, pour faciliter l’accueil en Alsace pendant une période d’environ un an, de chercheurs de niveau international invités par des établissements d’enseignement supérieur et de recherche. Chaque titulaire d’une Chaire Gutenberg bénéficie à ce titre d’un « Prix Gutenberg » de 1 000 € qui lui est attribué personnellement et d’une dotation financière spécifique de 50 000 € attribuée à leur unité d’accueil et affectée intégralement à la réalisation de leur projet de recherche. Des dossiers de candidature et des Chartes des Chaires Gutenberg (en français et en anglais) sont disponibles sur simple demande adressée à cercle.gutenberg@free.fr. STUDIES IN SOCIAL JUSTICE : APPEL À CONTRIBUTION
Les membres du comité de rédaction de Studies in Social Justice invitent les propositions d’articles tout au long de l’année. Studies in Social Justice est publiée deux fois l’an par le Centre d’études en justice sociale de l’Université de Windsor. Cette revue électronique publie des articles sur des questions abordant les problèmes sociaux, culturels, économiques, politiques et philosophiques associés à la lutte pour la justice sociale. Cette revue interdisciplinaire veut publier des travaux qui joignent la théorie aux changements sociaux et à l’analyse de questions de fond.
