The book “Catcher, Self-Consciousness, Comparison——Educational Studies of Indigenous People and Nationalities” compiled by Dr Chen Bateer from the Canadian Studies Center of Nankai University and Dr Peter. Englert from University of Hawaii, was published by Central University for Nationalities January, 2009 in China while It was regarded as the Educational Ethnological Series of “211 project” of Central University for Nationalities. His Canadian Study papers such as “on the Education of Aboriginal People in Canada before Confederation-Take the Indian as the Case”, “Anthropological Rethink on the Aboriginal Culture in Canada”, “On the Developmental Model of Higher Education for Ethnic Minority Groups between China and Canada: Take the Central University for Nationalities in China and the First Nations University in Canada as Cases”, and his student, Hanwei’s master dissertation “On the Movement of ‘Indian Control of Indian Education’ in Canada” were put into the third part of the book which named “Compariosn and Experiences: Education of Indigenous People and Nationalities from abroad”. The book “Sharing, Understanding, Collaboration, Development-Higher Educational Studies of Indigenous People and Nationalities in Asia-Pacific” edited by Dr Chen Bateer from the Canadian Studies Center of Nankai University and Dr Peter. Englert from Uniersity of Hawaii, was published by Central University for Nationalities August, 2009 in China. while It was regarded as the Educational Ethnological Series of “211 project” of Central University for Nationalities. The book was the outcome of the Asia-Pacific Symposium and Workshop of Higher Education of Indigenous People and Nationalities which was held February 28-March2,2008 in Nankai University. The paper “Indigenous Transformational Higher Education at the University of British Columbia in Canada” written by Professor Jo-ann Archibald & Dr Lee Brown and the paper “Issues of Urban Aboriginal Education in Canada” written by Professor Wesley Heber were translated and put into the book. ICCS CONTACT CIEC International Council for (Cliquez ici pour aller à la version française ON THE HOMEFRONT Ageing Societies: The Dynamics of Demographic Change in Canada – Call for Papers Deadline Extension Please note the ICCS has extended the deadline for submitting a proposal for its Biennial international conference “Ageing Societies: The Dynamics of Demographic Change in Canada,” to be held May 29 and 30, 2010, in Montreal during the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences to be held at Concordia University from May 28 to June 4, 2010. The new deadline is October 1, 2009. Please apply for ICCS Programs and Awards by November 24! Graduate Student Scholarships Twelve (12) scholarships to spend 4-6 weeks at a Canadian university or research site to do research related to a thesis or dissertation in the field of Canadian Studies. Value: $3500 (maximum). Eligibility: scholars from Social Sciences or Humanities Programs, who are in the process of preparing a graduate thesis or doctoral dissertation on Canada. Application procedure: students must send their dossier to their Association or Associate Member; applications must then be submitted to the ICCS by an Association or Associate Member. Please note that your submission must reach your Canadian Studies association much before the ICCS deadline. It is the candidate's responsibility to contact his/her association to find out its deadline. Canadian studies postdoctoral fellowships Two internships to visit a Canadian or foreign university with a Canadian Studies program for a teaching or a research internship. Eligibility: Canadian and foreign academics, who have completed a doctoral degree on a topic primarily related to Canada and who are not employed in a full-time university teaching position. Application procedure: the application must be submitted with a recommendation from an ICCS Canadian Studies Association or Associate Member. Value: $2,500 per month (min. one month and max. three months), plus a return airline ticket. Publishing Fund Financial assistance to a scholarly press for publishing monographs on Canada written by foreign Canadianists (who is a member of an ICCS Canadian Studies Association or Associate Member). Application procedure: the application must be submitted by a scholarly or university press, with a recommendation from an ICCS Canadian Studies Association or Associate Member. The Governor General’s International Award for Canadian Studies Award to an outstanding scholar who has made a significant contribution to scholarship and to the development of Canadian Studies internationally. Awarded alternately to a Canadianist having a career primarily in Canada and to a Canadianist having a career in Canadian Studies primarily in another country. Eligibility: citizens of any country. Pierre Savard Awards Two awards for books on a Canadian topic (one award for a book written in English or French, one for a book written in a language other than English or French). Eligibility: member of an ICCS Canadian Studies Association or Associate Member. Application procedure: the application must be submitted by an ICCS Canadian Studies Association or Associate Member. Best Doctoral Thesis One award for an outstanding PhD thesis on a Canadian topic, written in any language, which has been successfully defended within the preceding two years.
