From May 27 to June 5, 2009, Professor Bernie M. Frolic, Professor Emeritus in York University and Senior Researcher in University of Toronto, guest professor of Beijing Foreign Studies University, gave a series of lectures on Canadian foreign policy in the School of English and International Studies, Beijing Foreign Studies University. This is the third time in the past two years that Professor Frolic has visited the Canadian Studies Center of BFSU and given lectures on Canada.

The four major topics concern respectively current developments in Sino-Canadian relations, especially since Harper came into office; Canada-ROK, Canada-DPRK, Canada-Japan relations; differences between Canadian and American Political Values/Culture; and current developments and unique phenomena in Canadian economy, society and politics. To be specific, the first lecture focuses on three themes, i.e. the nature of Stephen Harper’s foreign policy, the human rights issue and the restructuring of the Sino-Canadian relations. The second lecture brings to the attendees fresh knowledge and perspectives on Canada’s relations with three other East-Asian countries -- Japan, ROK, and DPRK. With respects to the different political values and culture in the U.S. and Canada, the third lecture outlines ten areas for examination, including those of geography, relationship with nature, religion, role of individuals, type of government, etc. And the last lecture briefs the attendees of the latest developments in  Canadian society and politics, including the Chinese communities in  Canada and Ameri-canization of Canadian political system.          Group photo of Prof. Frolic and members
